Ba Ria - Vung Tau is a coastal province in the Southeast of Vietnamand located in the southern key economic region, at the gateway to the East Sea. Ba Ria - Vung Tau is conveniently connected to Ho Chi Minh City and other localities by road, air and waterway.
Vung Tau, a coastal tourism city and the center of southern oil exploitation, was once the administrative center of the province. From May 2, 2012, the provincial capital moved to Ba Ria City. This is also the first province in the Southeast to have 2 cities in on province.
Ba Ria - Vung Tau has potentials for development such as: 93% of the total oil reserves and 16% of the total natural gas reserves of the country. The Central Government is focused on investing in the construction of the harbour system, national and international seas. The city is also located in the key area of the National Tourism Program.
The most special thing of the province is that Ba Ria - Vung Tau has 10 whale temples. Of course Nghinh Ong festival, or Tet of the sea, is an important event in the cultural and spiritual life of fishermen here. The province has Dinh Co (Long Hai) festival from February 10 to February 12 of the lunar calendar to worship the Goddess and God and combine with the sea god.

1. Con Dao Island.
Con Dao, also known as Con Lon, Con Son, is an island district of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. About 1 hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City, Con Dao with an area of about 76km2 including 16 large and small islands with a population of only about 6000 people.
Con Dao is famous for its long beaches, beautiful white water like paradise. The most fascinating thing here to make you remember forever about Con Dao is the wonderful marine life, the only place in Vietnam that you can occasionally see the sea dugong on the list national conservation. You can visit Vich island to see turtles laying eggs or to see the monkeys in nature sitting on the cliffs. The best time to visit is from April to November.
1.1.Con Dao Prison
Con Dao Prison is a place not to be missed when traveling to Con Dao. This is the place where the French colonialists and SVA built with hundreds of cells, isolated rooms to imprison and exile patriotic Vietnamese and political prisoners.
Especially the famous tiger cages system, shocked the whole world when it was discovered. It has become the sacred place of the country to record the undefeatable spirits of national heroes.
1.2.Island Governor Palace
This place was formerly a place to live and work of the island Governor, the head of the Con Dao prison system. Visitors to Con Dao want to learn about the history here, they must come here to explore the nation's history through artifacts, images and documents in French displayed here.
1.3.The Cross Mountain
Mount of the Cross is one of the interesting things that all tourists come here to want to conquer. Especially during Valentine's Day, this place attracts a lot of couples because it is said that if the couple holds hands to watch the sunset, they will be together forever.
To climb this mountain, it takes about 1 hour. When you reach the top of the mountain, you will enjoy the cool, pleasant atmosphere, you will be immersed in the cloudy nature, surrounded by white clouds. This will definitely be an interesting place to visit for everyone, especially couples.
1.4.Dam Trau Beach
Dam Trau beach is located in the north of the island area of Co Ong airport, considered the most beautiful beach in Con Dao. Dam Trau beach used to be like a golden silk banding across a green carpet, halfway across the forest and halfway on the sea. Beach romantic and peaceful, almost untouched by tourists. It still remain rustic, gentle sandy beach, surrounded by pristine forests.
The strange thing is that the sand here is yellow and not white like other beaches on the island. If you visit Dam Trau beach, you can both swim and enjoy a few seafood specialties. Seafood here are fresh at affordable prices, and you can watch the plane taking off and landing right next to you so exciting.
1.5.Suoi Nong Beach( Hot Spring beach)
From Dam Trau beach, visitors can cross a short forest road to reach Hot Springs beach. This is a pristine beach and very few people know about it.
The seashore has the beauty of a tropical seashore with flat white sand and a rare mangrove ecosystem different from other islands.
it is a tourist destination with beautiful, attractive natural landscapes when you come to visit, relax, admire and explore nature on the island. It is like a rich colorful picture of corals mingling with the sea creatures hidden in the sun through the clear blue water.
In Hon Tai area, you can observe rare animals such as red-faced monkeys, squirrels, iguana, gecko, birds...,and snorkeling to see the surrounding corals.
1.7.Bay Canh Islet
This is the second largest island on Con Dao. It has the highest number of sea turtles which come to lay their eggs in Vietnam. Each year hundreds of mother turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs. The whole island is covered with primeval rainforests, with rich flora and fauna.
Coming to Bay Canh Islet, you will have the opportunity to explore the mangrove ecology and snorkeling. The corals here are very diverse in types and included in the Vietnam Red Book.
1.8.Nui Mot Pagoda
Also known as Van Son Tu, a relic associated with the name Con Dao. Nui Mot Pagoda has a majestic architecture located on the top of the mountain, it is a beautiful landscape not to be missed when coming to Con Dao, a place of spiritual worship of the local people.
1.9.Phi Yen Temple
Ba Phi Yen Temple, also known as An Son Mieu, is the place to worship Lady Phi Yen - the royal concubine of Lord Nguyen Anh. Lady Phi Yen and the national hero, Ms. Vo Thi Sau, are the two most respected local women on this island.
This temple is very sacred for the islanders and it is associated with a tragic story of a talented, patriotic woman.
1.10.Watching Turtles Lay Eggs
Watching turtles lay eggs is a way to enjoy the most unforgettable moments on Con Dao. On Cau islet, there is a turtle sanctuary, you can spend the night here to have the opportunity to participate in the activity of bringing newly hatched turtle eggs to the coast.
Turtle laying season from March to October and about 3,000 to 5,000 eggs hatch each night. However, this sea area is prohibited because human presence may affect the living of turtles.
2. Jesus Christ Statue
The statue of Christ the King (or the Statue of God with his arms out, the statue of Christ atop Mount Tao Phung) is a statue of Jesus placed on top of Small Mountain in Vung Tau City (built in 1974). The statue was recorded as "the largest Statue of Jesus in Asia" in 2012.
The statue is 32 meters high, the length of its arms is 18.4 meters; placed on a platform carved with the image of God and 12 apostles. Inside the statue is a spiral staircase of 133 steps, running from the pedestal to the statue's neck. The path to the statue has 1,000 steps with a height of 500m. Inside the statue can accommodate 100 visitors at the same time.
3. White Palace( Bach Dinh)
White Palace is called after the French name Villa Blanche, which means white villa, located on the big mountain side of Vung Tau City. The front facing the sea, the back leaning on the mountain gives White Palace a firm posture. Bach Dinh is a 3-storey building with a height of 19m and a length of 25m, the entire house is white, arched roofs, tiled roofs. When visiting the palace, you can see the French architecture from the shape to the layout with very decorative borders.
White Palace was built from 1898 to 1902, used to be a resort for the Governor General of Indochina, Emperor Bao Dai and the Presidents of South Vietnam. It is also the palace where the French colonial government kept Thanh Thai imprisoned from September 12th, 1907 to 1916.
Currently, White Palace is used as a museum to display a collection of rare ceramics from the Kangxi period which salvaged from ancient ships crashing in Hon Cau - Con Dao area, cannon artilleries and many other valuable artifacts.
4. Vung Tau Lighthouse
Lighthouse is a place which give you the panoramic view city of Vung Tau, overlooking the other mountains and watching the vast blue sea.
Vung Tau Lighthouse is located on the top of Little Mountain (also known as Mount Tao Phung. The Lighthouse was built by the French in 1862 for the purpose of giving directions and signals to the ships, located at an altitude of 149m above sea level. In 1913, the French rebuilt this lighthouse, moving the height of the lighthouse from a height of 149m to an altitude of 170m. Vung Tau Lighthouse is one of the oldest lighthouses in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
5. Ho May Amusement Park
Ho May has an area of 50ha, located at an altitude of 210m above sea level, this place always has a cool climate, fresh air, bringing a feeling of pleasure and comfort for visitors.
At Ho May, you will admire the largest artificial lake on mountain in Vietnam, the waterfall is flowing from the sky, the diverse ecological garden with many different animals, entertainment areas for all ages and even spiritual cultural tourism. In addition, this place also has 5D Cinema, sports racing area, playground on the sand, artificial climbing, horse riding club, magic circus area ... and many other unique and new games.
6. Front Beach
Front beach, also known as Tam Duong beach, is often praised as a half-moon shape leaning back on the mainland with two ends of mountains: Tuong Ky and Tao Phung. It has both a charming natural seascape, as well as an anchoring bay of the ships after each fishing journey. Along the Front beach are rows of coconut trees, sumptuous almond trees shady, along with a park area for pedestrians.
Vung Tau city center is located in Front Beach area, so this area has many modern buildings and hotels, giving Front Beach space always busy and prosperous.
7. Back Beach
Back Beach, also known as Thuy Van beach, is located in the southeast of Vung Tau city, stretching about 8km from the foot of Nho mountain to Cua Lap.
Bai Sau beach is calm in the south monsoon season but with strong waves and cold wind in the north monsoon season. With fresh air, cool, charming scenery, Back Beach will create a feeling of comfort for visitors after hard working days.
8. Thich Ca Phat Dai Pagoda
Thich Ca Phat Dai is the most outstanding construction, becoming a common name for the whole complex. Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as the Golden Buddha, is an exposed statue of Shakyamuni Buddha meditating, located in front of the Bodhi tree planted by Venerable Narada on November 2, 1960.
Lotus shape foundation and reinforced concrete Buddha Body were constructed on the spot. Particularly the head of the statue was molded in Saigon. Then the mold was brought to Vung Tau to cast the head of the statue and assemble into the body. In the body is adorned with 3 relics jewels on August 18, 1962, at the same time with 13 relics decorated into Stupa.
9. Niet Ban Tinh Xa Pagoda( Nirvana Pagoda)
Nirvana Pagoda is a scenic spot of the coastal city of Vung Tau and considered to be the most beautiful pagoda with modern architectural features.
Also known as Reclining Buddha Pagoda was built by monk Thich Thien Hue from 1969 to 1974 on the side of Nho Mountain, in the center of Bai Dua. There is the vast sala forest on the back, in front is the immense sea.
10. Ho Coc-Ho Tram Beach
Ho Coc is located in Bung Rieng commune, Xuyen Moc district, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. The road to this area has a very cool climate thanks to the surrounding mountains and forest. Because it is the brand new destination for tourists, so the landscape here still keep its inherent pristine features with blue sea, white sand, trees and large beaches.
However, the difference that makes the romantic poetic scenery is the rock in Ho Coc. Rocks with many different shapes, scattered across the beach, from the gentle sand dunes to the sinking amidst the clear sea water. What is more wonderful than sitting on the cliffs, closing your eyes, listening to the beautiful scenery, the sound of nature here.
11. Binh Chau Hot Spring
Coming to Binh Chau, you will feel the wonderful attraction of nature, among primeval forests forming a system of hot springs all year round. The area with a hot spring running about 1km2, forming large and small boiling lakes. The widest area of the lake is about 100m² with a depth of more than 1m. This is the hottest spot, the water is always effervescent, evaporates to form a huge natural steam boiler. The water surface temperature is about 64ºC, the bottom of water is 84ºC. The lake water is always sparkling, evaporating like a giant natural steam cooker. In shallow areas, the water is only about 40ºC, you can soak your feet for curing diseases.
According to scientific analysis, Binh Chau mineral water contains silicon, nitrogen, sulfur, sodium, chlorine which can cure some diseases if soaked in a bath regularly. An interesting thing here is that in such a hot lake area, cajuput forest and other plants still grow green, creating an attractive and strange beauty.
12. Long Son Big House
Long Son big house, also known as Ong Tran temple, is located on the east side of Nua mountain, in Long Son island commune, Vung Tau city.
This is an ensemble of ancient architecture, made of bricks and precious woods, with a total area of about 2 hectares, divided into three areas: the temple; Assembly hall, school, market, Ghe Sam conservation house and Mr. Tran's tomb.
The Long Son Big House consists of houses with Vietnamese village-style architecture, but does not follow any overall plan. The ground floor houses alternately one after another, unbalanced, created a strange architectural layout, severely breaking construction regulation.
Khot Cake( Banh Khot)
Previously, this cake is often made by mothers on holidays, family reunions. Over time, the tourism development has enabled Banh Khot to get closer to customers who coming to Vung Tau. Currently, those names such as Goc Vu Sua, Cay Sung, Co Ba Vung Tau, etc. are the daily culinary rendezvous of locals as well as international tourists.
The main ingredient for making cakes is rice flour. You can add a little turmeric powder to make the cake yellow eye-catching. The filling is quite diverse, can be scallops, minced meat, fish, shrimps, ... add a little oil or onion, served with fresh vegetables such as lettuce, basil leaves, herbs, shredded papaya, ...
The sun and the breeze, along with the clear blue sea, charmed the hearts of anyone who came here and lost in the culinary paradise of Vung Tau to forget the way back. Stingray hotpot is a strange name but once you come here then definitely you cannot miss one of the famous restaurants to enjoy this delicious dish.
Stingray hotpot with a variety of processing methods, each method associated with a particular spice, but the common point of each hotpot is the smell of fish mixed with the broth to stimulate the taste of those who enjoy this dish.
Dip each slice of fish tail in a pot of boiling hot water to wake up the aroma of fish served with pickled bamboo shoots and other herbs. The pieces of fish are cooked, a little spicy of chili served with the tops of freshly cooked vegetables and some noodles are delicious.
Banh Canh Long Huong( Long Huong Noodle Soup)
The broth of this dish is quite simple, it is cooked from sea fish, shrimp and pig bone. As revealed by the owner, the fish and shrimp help the broth in the sweetness, the bone of the pig bring the sweetness, fat ... All these elements combine together to create a pot of clear and sweet broth.
The ingredients for the soup are pork parts such as sausages, lean meat or lean ribs (the thin bones near the shinbone with lots of meat around). Depending on your favorite, you can choose a bowl of pork, lean meat or lean ribs ...or to get a combo. Besides, to avoid the feeling of being fed up, the soup here is always served with a dish of fresh vegetables and a cup of rich dipping sauce, which adds a delicious flavor to this dish.
