Sihanoukville

Named in honour of the then head-of-state, Sihanoukville was born out of the jungle in the late 1950s to create Cambodia’s first and only deep-water port. Its creation was strategic, because it meant that the country’s international trade no longer had to pass through Vietnam’s Mekong Delta.

Away from the deep water port, Sihanoukville is surrounded by white-sandy beaches and undeveloped tropical island, and is Cambodia’s most happening beach destination, with its laid-back atmosphere, cool bars and restaurants.

Most people come to Sihanoukville for some relaxation time and where better to do this than on the beach. On the beaches you’ll discover water sports and numerous relaxed bars and restaurants to while away the time, and watch the sunset.

Mid-way between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville, you’ll find Kirirom National Park, which is a great place to stop when travelling between the two. Here you’ll find walking trails and fantastic waterfalls during the wet season.
